A girl carrying a fixed bomb on her body entered a mosque in northern Cameroon and blew herself up, killing five worshipers in an attack that bears the hallmarks of the Boko Haram terrorist group, authorities in Cameroon said.
Medjiawa Bakri, governor of the far north province by telephone, told Reuters the 12 to 13-year-old girl had arrived at the Sanda-Wagkiri mosque in Kolovata district at dawn time between 5 and 6 am.
“The men were kneeling when they came, and five of the worshipers were killed,” he said.
No suspect was mentioned, but Boko Haram group used suicide bombers and installed explosives in the bodies of children to hit civilian and military targets.
The terrorist group is currently divided into at least two factions and has been fighting for nearly 10 years in the Lake Chad region, which is bordered by four countries – Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger and Chad.
