A leading Russian journalist leaves the country after receiving threats

Russian political commentator and author Yulia Latinina told Echo Moscow that she left the country for fear of her life after receiving threats.

Unidentified people set fire to the Latinina car in early September, weeks after spraying a toxic substance on her home and car on the outskirts of Moscow, and was attacked in central Moscow last year.

Latina told the radio station that she was “very scared” and “feared those who did so would be ready to kill.”

“My parents and I are abroad now and we are unlikely to return to Russia any time soon.”

The writer of the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta criticized the Kremlin’s policy in the Chechen republic of the Caucasus region.
