China’s president calls on Macaron to “calm the situation” in the North Korean crisis

Chinese President Xi Jinping conveyed to his French counterpart Emmanuel Macaron his hope that France would play a “constructive role” in re-launching talks on the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, state television reported Friday.

“China hopes France, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, will play a constructive role to calm the situation and re-launch dialogue” in the North Korean file, the official CCTV channel quoted its accounts on social media websites.

The Chinese president spoke with Macron over the phone, the television said.
