Cyber crime in Germany rose 80% in 2016

A German newspaper quoted the government on Sunday that it recorded 82,649 cases of fraud, online spying and other cybercrime, in 2016, up 80 percent from the cases recorded in 2015.

The daily Die Welt said Interior Minister Thomas de Maissier was due to publish the new statistics as part of the government’s annual report on the crime.

In addition to online crime, the police also recorded 25,329 internet-assisted crimes, up 3.6 percent from 2015, the paper said
