The Irish Blockchain Expert Group (IBEG), an organization led by IDA Ireland, launched on Monday Blockchain Ireland, an online information platform that focuses on the local blockchain ecosystem. The portal aims to promote Ireland as a blockchain-friendly country and inform people about the ecosystem.

IBEG was established by IDA Ireland, the agency tasked with attracting and developing foreign direct investment. The group includes blockchain-oriented companies and projects in Ireland, representatives of academia, and entities from the wider local blockchain community. Enterprise Ireland and the department of finance are also supporting the initiative.

IDA Ireland CIO Keith Fingleton commented:

“IBEG and the Blockchain Ireland initiative will assist blockchain projects and businesses in leveraging the beneficial environment in Ireland to foster increased innovation, and develop a national, European, and international blockchain ecosystem. Ireland is uniquely positioned to serve as a technology hub within Europe and internationally, with a large, highly skilled workforce and clear government commitment to innovation – reflected by tax initiatives promoting R&D and foreign investment in the Irish economy.”

He added that the proximity of relevant parties, such as government institutions, foreign and local companies, and universities, permits efficient cooperation.

The website is already live and has several categories to click on, such as news, events, FAQs, and connect – the page that focuses on the blockchain activity in Ireland. The platform displays companies like ConsenSys, IBM (NYSE:), and Deloitte, which are known to be active in implementing and promoting the distributed ledger technology (DLT) and have a presence in Ireland. ConsenSys is a New York-based blockchain company that also supports the initiative.

Lory Kehoe, managing director of ConsenSys, said that Blockchain Ireland was an essential first step in making Ireland a blockchain leader in a decentralized future.

Eoin Fitzgerald, senior advisor for Fintech for Enterprise Ireland, noted that DLT had huge potential for Ireland’s economy, serving as a catalyst for innovation across many industries. According to him, the initiative will support local blockchain startups and those who plan to apply the disruptive technology for various use cases.

Blockchain Ireland will help the public connect with the local blockchain sector by providing relevant information such as how to launch a startup in Ireland, where to get support for blockchain projects, what events are upcoming, etc.
