A person was killed and several wounded when a bullet was fired Wednesday at a high school near Spokane, Washington, police and local media said.
According to The Spokeman Review, a suspected shooter was transferred to a detention center after shooting at Freeman High School in Rockford. One of the victims was killed and other persons were injured, she said.
A hospital spokeswoman said the injured were in stable condition and receiving treatment.
It was not immediately clear whether the victims were students or school staff.
Authorities did not disclose the identity of the suspect, but Uzi Kenzović, Spokane County police chief, said that “the shooter is in the back seat of a patrol vehicle at the moment.”
A Twitter user named Christina, who identified herself as a high school student, said she was evacuated after at least four bullets were fired. A picture of fearful students sitting on the floor in a classroom was posted on the website
