Seventeen people drowned in a coup in Senegal

Seventeen people were killed in Senegal on Tuesday as a boat capsized in the Salum River near the country’s northern border with Gambia.

The rescue workers were quoted as saying that the number of victims of the accident was likely to increase, pointing out that 15 of the victims were women, while the cause of the accident was not yet known.

Local residents in the area are engaged in fishing and often neglect to wear vests so as to reduce the chances of success in the event of similar incidents.
