South Korea, US in talks over joint drills with USS Carl Vinson

South Korea said on Monday it was in talks with Washington to conduct joint exercises with the US aircraft carrier combat group Carl Vinson as it approached the waters of the Korean Peninsula amid fears that North Korea would conduct a new nuclear test.

South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman Mun Sang-jeun did not give further details, but Seoul is in discussions with the US Navy. Two Japanese destroyers joined the US aircraft carrier Carl Vinson on Sunday for training.
