US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Satterfield will lead the US delegation to the current round of Syrian negotiations, which will kick off tomorrow in the Kazakh capital of Astana, the State Department said Wednesday.
“Satterfield will renew US support for areas to reduce escalation and ensure humanitarian access,” the ministry said.
Satterfield also expressed US concern about Iran’s participation as a guarantor of the Astana talks.
Sources close to the Astana negotiations have confirmed today a consultation session in the Kazakh capital Astana, which includes negotiators from Russia, Turkey and Iran, in preparation for the sixth round of negotiations on the crisis in Syria, which is scheduled to start tomorrow.
The Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan announced earlier – the participation of Syrian armed opposition in the sixth round of negotiations on Syria.
