Washington is conducting training to evacuate its citizens from South Korea next month

US forces in South Korea are planning to train soldiers to evacuate US civilians and move them to safe places in the event of a crisis on the Korean Peninsula.

According to Korean news reports, training scheduled for June may see US troops in the country evacuating family members and other civilians to places such as Japan for how to transport them by plane.

The planned training comes amid heightened tensions in the region due to ballistic missile tests by North Korea and joint military exercises by the United States and South Korea.

There are about 230,000 US citizens currently living in South Korea, including 28,500 members of the armed forces.
